Job Description:
We are one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for marine science research, graduate training, and public service in the world. Our Research encompasses physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans. Our oceanographic research vessels make up one of the largest academic fleets in the world. Our ships have state-of-the-art research instruments to study marine life, the oceans, the seafloor, and the atmosphere. Cruises vary from local trips to expeditions as long as two and one-half years. Our research ships are available to scientists around the world, have steamed more than six million nautical miles in support of science and the academic community.


Oiler/QMED

POSITION OVERVIEW
1. Under supervision, assist engineers with the operation, repair and maintenance of related engineering equipment
2. Stand underway watches at sea, and generator watches in port
3. Repairs, maintains, and operates deck winches on the various research vessels
4. Perform non-skilled duties including wiping oil, maintain tools, cleaning, and preparation and painting of engine equipment and spaces
5. Under emergency situations as defined by a ship’s senior officer, perform jobs as deemed necessary


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. Possession of current Merchant Mariner’s Document with Oiler endorsement,
2. Valid U.S. Passport
3. STCW95 Certificate
4. Ability to pass a physical examination with a company doctor
5. Comply with U.S. Coast Guard (DOT) regulations for Chemical Drug and Alcohol testing.
6. Ability and willingness to go to sea for extended periods of time
