Job Description: The Second Assistant Engineer is responsible for the operation of all engine room machinery while on duty and is expected to complete any routine service, minor repair work and adjustments that are necessary during the watch. Provide work direction for Oiler’s and Wiper’s in the repair and maintenance of the engineering plant . Stand two 4-hour underway watches daily in the engine room and machinery watches in port. Maintain logs on all operating machinery while on watch. Generate daily fuel, lube oil, and water reports. Serve as “fuel king” during bunkering operations. Perform other duties as defined by a ship’s senior officer during emergency situations.
